Pure Cinema: A Staged Reading

How do you pitch The Master of Suspense on a film that lampoons his life’s work? If you’re Mel Brooks, call it an “homage.”

Based on meetings between Hitchcock and Brooks in the months leading to High Anxiety, this new play imagines how two of Hollywood’s most bankable talents confronted their fears about Hitler jokes, #MeToo accountability, and soft-boiled eggs.

Written by David Neipris and directed by Marya Mazor. With Ron Bottitta, Yoni Lotan, and Heather Mazur.
